North light on every workbench, and not a single fluorescent tube switched on before noon.

Brightwater Works is a 15,800 square metre plant for a maker of precision optics on the edge of Eindhoven, with production on one level and offices in a glazed block at the entrance.

The sawtooth roof faces north, so the production floor gets even daylight all day without glare or heat. The steel frames span 30 metres between rows of columns that double as service risers.

The floor sits on vibration-isolated slabs under the most sensitive machines, cast in the same pour as the rest of the hall.
