Seven piers, one line, and a reservoir that never had to be drained.

The Krka Valley Viaduct carries a new regional road 640 metres across a reservoir in the Dalmatian hinterland, replacing a winding mountain route that closed every winter.

Its seven piers were cast inside cofferdams sunk into the reservoir bed, so the water level and the fish never had to change. The deck was launched incrementally from the eastern abutment, eighteen metres at a time.

Every pier was surveyed twice a day while the deck slid across it. The road opened to traffic in the autumn of 2022, four weeks ahead of programme.
